The After School Program students at First Baptist Preschool and Kindergarten (grades 3-7) created these Tagxedo Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr portraits a while back, but I brought them out again to show for Black History Month. Tagxedo is a free Web 2.0 tool similar to Wordle, creating word clouds that fit into a shape, such as the portrait of MLK Jr. I brought in for the students to use for this project. For their Tagxedo MLK portrait each student researched on the internet an article about MLK and typed words about him that they thought were important into a Word document. They then copied and pasted their words about MLK into their Tagxedo MLK template and experimented with choosing different font styles, color schemes, and word arrangements - a fun computer art project that sparked conversations about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his fight for Civil Rights.
