ASP - Girls: Pickle Making at the Main Library

First Baptist Preschool and Kindergarten: After School Program: Girls have been enjoying the storytime and craft activity "Book Buzz" at the Main Library on Wednesdays. It is a great way to take advantage of their extended afternoon on their early dismissal day.

Wednesday, October 11, the library hosted a cooking activity led by Sugar Beet Food Co-op.

The ASP Girls made pickles as a part of the Main Library's commemoration of the 100th year anniversary of the United States entering WWI. A book reading and discussion were led on food preservation and its importance during times of scarcity, such as war.

To make the pickles the girls used special vegetable cutters to slice cucumbers and placed the slices in plastic take home tubs. They added a clove of garlic, a sprinkle of dill seeds, then salt water brine was poured over, and the lid carefully placed on. The girls brought their pickles home that evening and tried the pickle slices on following days. They were delicious! One parent asked for the recipe.

Other Main Library: "Book Buzz" activities have included packing food and treat bags for the homeless, decorating pumpkins, and making a sugar skull craft.

First Baptist Preschool and Kindergarten sends a huge THANK YOU to the Oak Park Library for their amazing fun and educational activities!
